Behavioral Therapy  (TF -CBT)

What is Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)

TF –CBT is a therapeutic intervention designed to help children, adolescents, and their parents overcome the impact of traumatic events. For example, it is designed to help with traumas related to physical & sexual abuse, domestic violence, and community violence, an unexpected death of loved one, natural disasters and war.

If you or someone you know may be suffering from a traumatic event(s) – please contact the Center for Children for more information and guidance on how you can get help.

Reactions to trauma include

  • Difficulty stopping thoughts about trauma

  • Emotional and physical numbing

  • Recalling physical sensations that occurred during trauma

  • Drug use

  • Low self-esteem

TF-CBT is provided to children from 3 to 18 years of age by a professional that has received training in TF – CBT. Staff from the Center for Children have recently completed the training seminars and are able to provide such services to our clients. The treatment typically lasts between 12 to 16 (1 hr) sessions.
