CASAs engage in a comprehensive screening process including an intensive personal interview, criminal background check and personal references. Then they participate in a 32 hours of pre-service training in the juvenile court process, child advocacy, laws affecting abused and neglected children, foster care, diversity, poverty, interviewing and report-writing. The CASA program is very intensive, often requiring nearly 20 volunteer hours in a given a month. The work is challenging, but very rewarding.
